My rock seems to be browning, but only at the bottom. A bit chipped off when I symphoned water out, not sure if some of the rock came off or some of what ever it is came off. Should I use a tooth brush to remove it? And what is it? Just detritus?

Thanks.

Josh.

How old is your tank

Looks like you have new tank that’s just part of the process they will go all sorts colours have you had diatom algae yet it doesn’t look like it probably the beginning of diatoms all natural and normal known as the uglies phase lasts couple weeks norally

Thanks all. Tank is 10 weeks old, had fish in for exactly two months, today.

I haven’t had any algae as I’m keeping the lights off until my nutrients are low enough.

Do I clean the rock or leave it as is?

Thanks.

Just leave mexican turbo snails do clean off the rocks but it will probably get a lot worse before it get better it I'll eventually spread to the sand tiger conches will help with that and syhponing off but it is just one of those things that will run its cause and die off

Thanks 4tanks. Should I be routinely cleaning the sand bed, or should I be letting bacteria populate there?

Just a siphon off the top to remove uneaten food and poop etc when you do your water changes don't go digging deep into it
