Hi Reefers,

Has anyone ever had fibre like growing string things in their tanks, almost like floating hairs attached to my rocks?

Perhaps its an algae. Picture would help.

I have no clue

Nah. Lots of people have vermetids. My experience is they get competed out, and you can always manually remove the ones that are annoying corals
The fact that they can completely take over an aquarium and kill coal.

Sure, if you don't have other things that outcompete them (more common in a new tank, is my experience). If you have specific ones that are bothering corals, you can snip/glue them. I can't really imagine them taking over a tank when there's consistent maintenance and people are regularly watching what's happening in their tank.

Honestly, they're one of those things that new reefers worry about, and you just get less stressed about them over time.

You can never completely eradicate them
