I just got this rock flower anemone yesterday and it came in a cup. I want to get it out of the cup and the guy at my lfs said just put some sand on it and it will move. How long should this take and would it be better to just remove it myself

Rock nems don’t stick that well to smooth surfaces. You can gently tickle its foot and it will come off. Just be gentle. Then hold its foot on the rock you want it on. It can take a few minutes. Don’t press down. It will grab it. Turn down/off flow for a bit till it’s seated. Maybe 10 minutes. It will then move where it wants.
I would not sprinkle sand over it, as others said you should be able to gentle ease the foot off of a smooth surface. Take your time and it will peel off.
