Rock Flower Downsides?

Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread, but having an RFA situation right this moment and you've got a good following.

Anyone have any advice on my latest reply to this thread?

Fyi, don't let this scare you. They're easy. My purple is an outlier.
I lost a big one for a week. It had went under a rock and eventually came out on his own. Purple. Nice.

I put the link so people could litter my thread with shame! They don't have an RFA police do they?

But thanks everyone!

It's Friday and I am wishing the work day away thinking about some future additions I would like to see in my tank down the road. I'm looking to stock forgiving inhabitants and softies. So far my only experience is with GSP and leathers.

I'm really drawn to the look of rock flower nems. Having never had any, can people weigh in some pros and cons. difficulty level etc. Do's and don'ts...... would my tank even support them?
Tank is a Biocube 32 with sock lighting (not planning on upgrading). Over a year old.

Hit my with your knowledge!

easy, colorful, some cost a decent bit. Need moderate lighting and flow. They can move when stressed, when in a spot they don't like (or one that became one they don't like) and sometimes when placed into a tank. However they move much less than other nems.

terrible pics. I rushed to take them. My babies are orange and green. Started spawning in August and I find a few new pun head size one every week. I've moved most lps out and will let the nems take over. I need some ultras. Beautiful pics above.
Jealous I haven't had a spawning event that I know of.

I'm thinking my future RFA's would probably want to be higher up on the rock since my lighting is "eh". They probably like lower down, for all of you with the nice fancy lighting.
Question: anyone have experience with them next to GSP. I'm looking for something to control it. What if I surround the GSP with rock flowers? Will it sting the GSP and keep it under control? Wishful thinking?

Thanks! So even a tiny Flaming Prawn goby and a very tiny mandarin? When I thought RFAs were on the rocks I didn't fear for these little guys but when I saw RFAs prefer to be down near the sand bed that's when I got concerned. These two are very small. The alternative is waiting until they grow out a bit more.
I wouldn't. Thats me. The real killers are the carpets.

I don't have fancy lighting. T5 and a fluval reef that I use just for supplemt full blues and ramp up and down. The t5 does all the work.

Keep gsp on the sand bed when it gets too big cut it trade or toss. Some lfs will give you credit. I'm not sure my rfa and gsp don't touch.

Thanks. So you wouldn't do RFAs with these fish or wouldn't wait to grow the fish out? Yes, I'm definitely staying away from the carpets. I wanted a mini but read they can be dangerous with small fish.

I would keep reef safe fish with rfa without hesitation. Carpet nems are ones that make me nervous with fish.

Yes, if i had started my tank myself I would have done that. But the previous owner started the GSP at the top of the aquascape in prime real estate. I have tried various removals but short of just killing the entire thing, I'm kind of at a loss. My options are to kill or control. Its such a big rock . Ive been brainstorming redoing my aquascape, but that would be a different thread entirely. I'd love the entire thing to be covered in RFA. I have started fragging it for my nano though and wouldn’t mind giving away some to any locals just as a kind gesture.

Gsp you can peel off the rocks. Just be careful and go slowly so not to rip. If you do its easier kill small spots than a big patch.

I’ll need a video as proof that peeling GSP off rocks is a real thing hahahahahaha.. my GSP will not. The only way I can get it off is scrubbing it off with a steel brush.

Start at a corner and gently peel up and than you can slowly work it up and off.

they do host porcelain crabs (or mine does), but of interest, that is the only one that moves around the tank bed.
That one of 5 is the only one that moves.
and occasionally I need to move away from where it has landed, which it takes well and without a fuss

Benefit from a little light feeding

I assume Powerheads and wavemakes arent a big danger to RFA like they are to reg nems??? do they wander up the glass?

I've tried twice, I will try again during a water change tonight in the hopes that it magically works. But when it doesn't work, be certain I will come back to tell you that you were wrong. HAHAHA :P ;)
