A guy who buys salt on sale and ends up with a box of rocks!

I'm gonna try this,

Just bought 3 boxes of IO from Chewy for $40/box.

I case it doesn't, I'll relate what I use to get around the same problem (in my case, HW Weigandt) - Lowes sells so-called "Food Safe" 5 gallon buckets for about $5, and tops sold separately for about $2. The tops have a gasket in them, so the assembled container is water tight. I've stored a 40lb bag of HW Weigandt in one of these for about 6 months in a humid basement, with no issues.

One thing to consider is that all plastic is water vapor permeable. The rate of that water vapor permeation is dependent on the type of plastic, the thickness, the temperature, and the relative humidity of the atmosphere around the storage container. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't store a moisture sensitive product in plastic containers, just that you should be aware of the fact and use up whatever you're storing in a reasonable period of time.

Ha! I sure know about plastics being water permeable cause IO is packed in plastic bags.

Can't someone invent a "super" plastic!?! Something that is stong, impermeable to water, scratch resistant and transparent? We could call it "glass."

I tried packing some IO bags into a 5g bucket I have (hey, what reefer doesn't have a few buckets lying around?) but the IO bags really didn't pack well into it. That's why I went for the storage bins.

I'm just hoping the plastic storage bins will perform better than the IO boxes and the desiccant will give me a few more months of shelf life.
