Tried searching but was not successful. Is there a guideline on how high rock should come up in a mixed reef tank (22inch high)? Said other another way how much below the waterline should the top of the rock typically come at the high point. Definitely plan to have some sps at some point. Thanks.

I wouldn’t say there is a guideline....... you just have to visualize the rock with and without the coral. You also have to plan for space to move around while cleaning the glass.

In both of my tanks I’m at about the halfway mark .....maybe higher in a few spots.

I have seen great tanks with low rock work and great tanks where the rock comes out of the water at the top. It is all up to you.

I would say the maximum for me would be 2/3 tank height.
