I didn't see a more appropriate place for this, so hopefully you guys can help me out! I'm just working on collecting items to set up my first tank and bought a trash can full of someone's old rocks. They didn't provide any detail on what kind they are and I'm not sure if it even matters, but just for sake of knowing the difference and determining preferences for the future, I was hoping someone could take a look at these rocks and see if they can tell me if they're a particular kind (marco, pukani, fiji, whatever other types there are!):

Here are some branch looking ones. They sound almost hollow or and sort of clank when they touch.

Ignore the garbage bags, they're just full of rubble pieces (I forgot to take a picture but assume it will match the rest).

These are a the most porous of the rocks and the biggest chunks:

Last, inside the bin is some smaller pieces, though bigger than the rubble. Several of these have some smoother sections like this bigger piece at the top but otherwise I think are all the same as the other image.

The first looks like Tonga branch. Second looks manmade like Marco/BRS. Third looks like a mix... some manmade and some pukani in there, maybe some Fiji too?

search on google type of Live rock, or just go and watch BRS videos, there you can get all of them.
For example yours are there:

they look pretty dry, wont it not matter what "kind" of rock they are this point?
Probably he want to know, to get how much, which type he have to put in his system, because the different LR dry/wet have different porosity and different volume of water displacement, from there different free surface in the porosity for bacterias and so on. In the other hand the different LR have different strength, and when you build your rock scape is better to know which one where to place and what on top of it.
That's my point of few

I assumed it doesn't especially matter beyond just wanting to know for personal knowledge. I've seen them in videos and stuff but have no hands on experience so don't necessarily have experience to pick out one kind over another when there could be kinds I've not heard of or they could look different from piece to piece. Like, Pukani seems pretty distinctly shaped with long spindles but maybe that's not always the case and I wouldn't know that without asking. :)

These are also good things to know that I hadn't thought of until watching the video someone posted above, which I had either overlooked or frankly forgotten about as I've watched SO MANY videos that are frankly aimed at experienced tank owners.

BRS have good reviews and videos, IDK how they do in USA, but what I see from them videos, they give appreciated info about many of the products we need :)
