So I see all these awesome dream tanks from nano to gigantic and alot of them have their rock work up against the sump wall (Fluval, red sea cubes etc) with a bunch of coralline and sometimes greenstars coating the wall as well

Question is : how do you keep that back wall area where the rock connects clean of detritus build up and stuff?

As with mine, I depend on clean up crew to do their best

Nassarius and trochus snails, and they Don’t get it all

I created a "seat" for my rear rockwork to lock into with the base rocks so it can be removed and replaced to the exact spot. I also cut and shaved the back rock to sit more flatly on the back wall. Despite this I rarely move it and usually just blow water back there with my feeder/dropper. I have a small tank so this may not be applicable to larger ones.
