If I would like to go from Rock to live sand how do I go about changing that?

Is it bad?

Remove Rock, insert sand. Gonna have a big sand storm doing it though. Is there live stock already in the tank? If you must do it with live stock, do it slowly to avoid a huge cloud issue. But not to worry, it will subside. If its dry sand, you can run it through a 1.5" pvc pipe to the places you want it, that will keep the dust down to a minimum.

Another question will my fish be affected by the new sand ill be putting in

The main issue with dead sand is the cycle that will occur as the bacteria colonize the sand. If done slowly enough you won't have an issue but definitely don't do it in one night. You may have to do it over a period of weeks.. Just my opinion.

By doing what you said Saulsa, changing it out slowly will my ammonia levels be ok? Instead of changing it all out at once?

I just setup my tank exactly how I wanted what do you guys think?
