Rocks for environmentally friendly aquarium

Wow! Perspective! Humbled!
Yea. I'm kinda weird.
I met Walt Smith and his wife this week end.
That was mind blowing. Look them up.
They are in Fiji and were in Vanuatu. Their main goal is sustainability.

Or the local economy would collapse

I mean. They could just walk away and move back to the US. But they stayed for thirty years. Introduced aqua culturing. Worked with the government to define the laws on exporting.

I watched his speech at MACNA 2014 (from my computer) what a neat story, but then again he does live in paradise :)

That's not what his wife says:D

Remember the wet season. Large bugs. Fish that kill. Rarely is ther running water.the actual toilet was imported from the mainland most adult Folks have no teeth. They built the school and just supplied a village with running water in thier homes that used to come from a pipe a mile under the sea from another island.

Imagine what it was like when they got there.

I'd go.
They invited me:)

That was sarcasm, "but we live in paradise"... he says it multiple times in his speech when he talks about things breaking and tropical storm season. I'll link the video

Oh cool thanks! Really a touching talk. I did a Bit of research and came across him years ago and mostly the flame war about him from sources that were not autobiography. It was intense.

I'd be pretty bummed if it was all banana sauce. I don't think it is.

I've only seen his name on boxes and watched this speech. He's the real deal as far as real deals come. I'd be delighted to meet him and go sling some rock for a season.

I really think this is an interesting thread. You see so many discussions about the environmental impact of the fish we keep, but have minimal discussions about other elements which could have an impact as well.

I know I struggled with the same question when starting my tank a few months ago, and I chose to go with the following:
