More rock is definitely on the agenda -- just need to figure out placement so that the rest of the structure is stabilized.

I'd definitely do some KP or TBS to avoid any ugly stage or ugly white icebergs in your tank. Give your urchin a taste of home.

The ultimate irony -- I had purposely avoided adding much coral directly to the rocks, as I enjoyed the exposed rock forms in the tank.

FWIW, sand and rock can slowly dissolve down inside them where the pH is lower from degradation of organics. This effect is usually seen in sand rather than rock, and some folks have had to add to the sand several tiems as the years roll by. Long time reefer Larry Jackson noted this effect in his sand, for example.

I also have experienced erosion of my live rock. My water is not acidic nor do I have urchins. I think it's just a natural occurrence in tanks that are up for a long time.
