I acquired a brs 4 stage rodi filter and wanted to test the auto shut off valve in anticipation of setting up a float valve. When I pinch the output line, the DI canister fills with water on the outside of the cartridge and waste water still flows out. Is that normal operation and I just need to let the pressure continue to build or is the asv broken? When I release the output line water shoots out much faster than normal Until the di canister empties.

I double checked the installation and the operating pressure is just over 50 psi

thanks

If the ASV is working properly if there is no flow out of the permeate (good) water side of the membrane then there shouldn’t be any flow going into the membrane.
I suppose though if water is filling up the di canister then it is still flowing from the membrane. What happens once the di canister fills up with water?

It took longer than I expected for waste water to quit flowing after the float valve was activated on my 5 stage. Try again and wait a little longer.

Ive not yet allowed it to fill all the way to the top because I wasnt sure if this was normal or not and didn’t want to bust the canister or seals.

it takes a little while for pressure to switch ASV. so water continues to flow to waste. leave it pinched it should shut off and when it does pressure is there until you turn off supply so no worries about seals.

It should only build up to the pressure of the water coming in (50psi), so that shouldn’t be a problem with too much pressure. I run my system around 100psi.
If there is room for water to fill the di canister then the water would still be flowing out of the permeate side of the membrane and the ASV wouldn’t stop flow until it stopped filling.
