I've recently picked up a Vertex HP-100 booster pump for our 150gpd RODI system, which has an automatic shutoff valve inline. This is hooked up to a reservoir with a float valve to turn off the RODI when it's full.

I ran it over night last night for the first time and the booster pump was alarmingly hot in the morning. Do I need to wire up some kind of timer or other mechanism to turn it off?

How are folks responsibly using a booster pump in combination with an ASV?

Don't you have the pump wired so it shuts off when the RO/DI shuts off? If not, it will overheat.

The pump only came with a power line and in/out guest fittings. I would love to wire it so that it shuts down, but I'm not sure if that's something I have to DIY here or something built in to most pumps?

Maybe I'll both you about it at the Boston Reefers meetup Saturday :)

Good Idea, bother me with it then. Maybe I can come up with something. I can't spend an hour talking about how I lost my hair anyway.

So it looks like I bought the stand-alone booster pump. There may be another part included in booster kits which is a pressure valve cutout on the power line to the booster pump - which is probably what I need to use this with the built in ASV on the RODI filter output.

I built an electric shut off when my tank is full. I built it out of an old mercury thermostat.

I am sure @Paul B can figure something out, as he could invent a method to power all the Supermodels that fawn over him's homes...

My booster came with a pressure cut-off switch, but I have no doubt Paul will work his usual miracles!

Or a float switch like in case of an ato.....to cut the power to the booster pump. I just use my hand and don't go to bed before disconnecting the booster pump ;-)
I don't even have the ASO unit....I use and alarm to tell me when the container is full which is about 45 min, but I'm a low tech in this division.

You need the pressure switch so when it senses the ASOV is shutting off it shuts the pump off.

I have DIY float switches and moisture cut off switches all over my house.
If there is a water leak in my house the main shuts off. If my water heater leaks, the intake water shuts off. It is all home made as I don't like the stuff you can buy. It isn't designed very well.
