RODI connection - what am I missing?

Hi everyone!
Working my way into the saltwater hobby and trying to hook up my BRS RODI unit but having some issues. I ordered the following and thought that they sent me a 3/8” instead of 1/4” but the second one came in the mail and is the same. How do I get the 1/4” RODI tubing to connect under my sink?

You probably need a 3/8” to 1/4” adapter and a very short section of 3/8” hose.

Sadly they sent you the wrong thing again(i am assuming you ordered the right one lol)

You can see right on the item it is 3/8 size. They sell both 1/4 and 3/8.

You need this one… they also come metal fittings, but plastic works fine. If you don’t want for BRS and/or you want to save some money order from the link I’ve attached or you can get them at Lowes, Home Depot or most pluming supply houses.

Any idea why the package indicates 1/4”?

I am guessing 1/4" fip...which would be for thread side. Thats just a guess though. In the picture though posted though on the pushlock side you can see it says 3/8.

If it were me i would go to lowes/home depot and you can probably find a combination of things to make it work even if they dont have exactly what you need.

Both box stores have a RO fitting section for the units that go under your sink for drinking water. Usually top row over the shark bites.

Look inside it for plastic only. Get down to 1/4". Bring your piece with you to help.

I have an RO under our sink for drinking water that also feeds the ice maker. I also have a RODI for the reef with a hose spigot connection that I use to fill a 55 gallon barrel in the garage. Whenever I have to find a washer or make a connection I find that I make at least two trips to the store for any plumbing job. I don't know who allowed all of the various sizes of threads and pipe sizes to creep into American hardware stores but the "simplest plumbing job" can be more stressful than getting married. I know because I've been married twice and I've done a lot of plumbing jobs at home and for neighbors.

I may have under reported my "success?" Last fitting I tried to buy I went to a few different plumbing stores and managed to purchase the wrong thread size from more than one vendor. That was to fix the RO faucet that was made in China. A 1/4 icemaker hose would fit directly on the end of the faucet. That end would almost thread and hold a compression fitting for 1/4 inch tubing but it took about a month before it popped off the first time. We had a minor flood in the morning, I was so glad i got up early as only a couple of gallons had leaked. I replaced that and it popped off again. *8 hardware stores later I MacGyvered that bad boy so that now it has it's own shut off that threads into a 5' 1/4" water supply that hooks perfectly onto the end of the faucet. This should be the end of the story, but the 3rd RO storage tank bladder has started to leak and is once again producing water with billions of tiny bubbles making a cloudy champaign effect in our water glasses. That plumbing project, installing a ro water tank has been repeted 3 times already in the last 10 years. So many hours wasted when i could have been at the LFS.

Get the 3 way valve knocked down a 1/4" od 1st

and throw the 3/8's away. That looks like a 2 way in the pic anyway. Mine is like this. One to go into rodi storage tanks, turn it for little projects like filling a jam jar for DIY dosing.

@KrisReef, you have a beautiful kitchen by the way. I wouldn't even cook in it if it was mine. If I remember right, 3 or 4 years ago in the hemmedog thread or trying to help out the kid from Texas, you had the dog that looked like Wicket the Ewolk.

Lol that cracks me up. I can definetely relate though. I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person....until i try to do a plumbing job

I did! I found a 3 way with shut off at Home Depot. Surprisingly in one trip! With that, I didn’t end up using what I bought from BRS but I’ll take the L on that one.

Good. Now we just have to get you set up with a booster pump, automatic shutoff system and storage tanks so you don't make a mess on the floor. If you don't have that stuff, then the tub or kitchen sink is the best spot to fill the buckets up. The first few times you'll be watching that paint dry, get confident and searching on this forum a few months later, lose track of of time, big mess on the floor. All wet. Glad you are making water.

Also if you are going to leave your RO/DI Pressured up, you need the 1/4” RO/DI Locking Clips. They are available from Amazon, pack of 50.
