I am looking for a high low sensor RODI controller.

Does anyone have any experience with either the spectrapure option

or the tunze RO controller

I’m debating between the two, but can’t decide.

many help would be appreciated.

thanks!

hi,lets ask an expert ;) @LiveWire  happy reefing:)

I have the Tunze unit and it works great. The mounting hardware is crap. I just siliconed both floats inside one of my 80 gal vats.

That is the only thing I hate about Tunze, they basically assume you will be mounting everything to a rimless tank. They used to have the same thing with their ATO but finally moved to magnets.

Hello there @yman182 Sounds like you have an idea now of which one you may want to invest in. What exactly is the end result that you are looking for? If you re using an Apex you can also DIY a setup fairly easily as well.

I am guessing that you are using a degassing tank because of the high CO2 levels in your well water? Believe me mine are off the charts in my well but I did not want to have to setup a degassing container so instead I got through a lot of Anion resin and just regenerate it when it gets exhausted.

I like your creativity @Tcook That is a great idea when it comes to a high low system!! I myself do not use a high low setup as I am in the fish room daily and have 270 gallons of storage so I just top off the top offs and mix in the salt storage when needed but I understand that people travel for work and such and there is a need for one.

thanks! I’mjust using the spectrapure as a reference. I’m not decided yet on which system.
My CO2 is at about 95ppm. I go through 1 anion canister for 50 gallons. How do you regenerate the anion cartridge? Maybe that’s a better idea.

You can regenerate it with Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) which cost about $14 for 2 lbs. there are also companies that will do it for you if you don't feel safe doing it yourself. If you are handy and don't mind a little work there is an article online on how to regenerate it and even how to separate the anion and cation resins although when you have straight Anion resin you don't have to worry about that step. The dye in the resin will fade in time but you can continue to use it, you just need to watch your TDS meter rather then looking at the color change.

I originally started doing it for environmental reasons before I had a well. But now it is a win win to save money because of the high CO2 i have in the well as well as keeping it out of the land field. I don't go through much Cation resin or mixed resin at all. Normally I am just changing those out because I feel they have just been in place too long even though they look and read fine.

Here is a link to the process. I do not use a drain cleaner Lye as stated in this link. I just started with a pure lye to begin with and use that. You can buy it on Amazon or Walmart or even a Home store. I have a couple gallons worth saved up now so I will be going through the process again soon.

I say keep it simple and cheap with all the parts you need from autotopoff.com. I’ve been running with their stuff for 15 years. I run the solenoid on a timer four times a day so that when it opens it has at least a few minutes worth of flow going through it
