I have a BRS RODI system with the dual inline TDS meter. City water here is pretty low TDS 3-6 so I can get a long time out of my filters. Even though I was reading 0 TDS output on the meter my filters visually looked like they could take a changing so I ordered some. Before changing filters my psi was and always has been around 20-30 psi.

I just put in the new filters, sediment, carbon, and di resin and my psi shot to 60! The gauge is hissing. It’s producing water but I checked the tds on the in-line meter and now the input reads 2 and output reads 3?? I didn’t change anything but the 3 filters. Any ideas?

No help here with your issue, but man 3-6 tds on city water you must mean after ro and before di?
Our city water is around 150 and well is 40 after softener but 3 is crazy low most municipalities put additives in for different water situations

3-6 tds on your source water? That doesn't seem right.. but that's not what you asked about. Did you remove any of the water lines? I am guessing you didn't and simply unscrewed the canisters and replaced the filters and then screwed them back in... If I remember correctly the psi meter is after the prefilters and measures pressure going into the RO membrane. So my guess is that there is a bad seal on one of the new filters and water is sneaking around the filter inside the canister. My only other thought is you have new filters that are more porous than the old ones and the water is getting through faster. Maybe a granular carbon filter instead of a carbon block? More info on which filters you replaced and what you replaced them with would be helpful. There are many choices for sediment and carbon filters and it can be confusing!

I was mistaken. You all are correct the TDS is before and after the resin I always assumed it was measuring before filtering. My existing filters where probably a little over a year old and I am in a new house that I never connected a fresh re filtered unit just the one I moved with. I am using the brs value 4 stage replacement filters.

I did let it run for a bit. It’s solid at 65 psi and the noise is coming from the flush valve/restrictor. I replace batteries in the tds meter and it’s better it still strange it’s reading 2 in 3 out now.

Sounds to me like your filters were far more clogged than you think they were. There was likely some sediment in the lines.

Give the membrane a good 10-15 minute flush and then let it make 10-15 gallons and check again.

got it worked out. You are right. I think I just waited to long to replace filters.

As for the issue on my TDS meter. It was reading same in and out. I’m not sure how because it really only goes in one way. But I removed the di cartridge, checked the gasket, and put it all back together. Now I’m getting 1 in and 0 out. I’m guessing it wasn’t sealing well and was bypassing the di. All good now.
