Basicly my question is as my title says. I came home one day to a big water mess because my RODI water reservior overflowed because the float on my system somehow filled with water. I have one of the black retangle type floats, and suggestions on what type of float I should replace this one with that hopefully woulnt give me this problem again? Water messes in the basement stink....

Id just get another of the same float. How old was the other float?

I would switch to DC float switches and a solenoid for a trouble free installation. More expensive but bulletproof and safe.

I'm with him on this one... However I would keep the float there in case the switches failed as I have had them fail too. Just replace it with another float either the same type or different one. A float valve is a float valve so it doesn't really matter what you replace it with.

If it was that new I think I would reconsider buying an identical replacement. Floats do fail but it should last longer than that. A big added benefit of the float switches is you can vary the start and stop levels and extend the run time of your RO/DI so it stays well flushed and you do not suffere the effects of TDS creep from the frequent starts and stops which eats DI resin much quicker. I have my float switches set 12" apart in my ATO storage so the level must drop 11 gallons before it comes on again to refill. TDS creep is a non issue like that.
