Do the flow resrtrictors on our rodi units go bad? Reason I ask is because I went down to my fish room this morning to check on my frag system, which is where my mixing station is and I keep hearing a pulsing hissing sound. I thought something sprung a leak in my rodi unit. No water any where then I noticed the pressure guage pulsing with the hissing sound. I opened the restrictor and it went away. Closed it, and it would pulse again. The unit is a 150 gpd 4 stage brs with the auto shut off via a float. Recently changed the membranes/cartridges and resins.
This is the first time of this happening in the 4 or so years of running this rodi unit.

Does this sound like a bad restictor or maybe a bad waste water shut off valve? Thanks guys and gals

yes they do. so do all of the quick connects. however, strange noises can also be caused by air in the canisters as well.

i would start by removing the membrane, filters and cartridges. run it with just water and see if the issue is still there. if it’s gone, replace everything one at a time and keep testing.

you can also remove just the restrictor and test it that way first.

The noise is almost always the auto shut off. White Square/block looking valve with 4 tubes going into it. If you change the pressure by removing the flow restrictor or whatever, the noise will stop. Flow restrictor can go bad, but auto shut off is known to go bad. Good practice to replace whenever you replace membrane, or when it starts to get noisy.

Thanks for the information guys!! @theMeat I happen to have a spare shut off valve and finally got around to changing it today, and voualla its all good now I was worried something major was wrong with my household plumbing lol
