I have a 20 gallon brute garbage can I bought brand new I use it to hold my rodi water but I get this funky smell what am I doing wrong or is that the way it smells ? Do I need to to put little hole to act as vents could use some help thanks and all input helps me I'm new at this and I enjoy this hobby

I would wash that can out with some distilled White vinegar and let it dry. Then fill with fresh rodi.

I have a hole in my lid but not sure if it's necessary or not. I do lay a small hand towel over the hole so it still get some air, keeps junk out and I can use it if needed.

Wash it with as above vinegar or some bleach and you should be good.
Make sure it does has the lit on top as you don't want airborne stuff to get in there.
That smelly water did you do a test on that TDS, Po4 and No3?

Get you some better test kits on the Po4 (Hanna)
And No3 (read sea pro)
