I had my basement spigot installed today, woohoo!! I am making a stand to screw the rodi unit to and then I will be ready hook up the unit and use it.

This may be a stupid question but what do I do with the unit in between uses? I imagine the filters and di resin are supposed to stay wet? I have the BRS 6 stage deluxe plus if that makes a difference.

When I turn the ball valve off, will it continue to drain from the rodi until it’s empty? I feel like I’m missing something...help?

I keep my RO/DI unit in a rubbermaid tote. When I want to make RO, I just put the whole tote in the deep sink, run the waste line down the washer's drain pipe, open the flush valve, and let it run for a few minutes before closing the flush valve. Between uses, the DI canister drains a little bit, but nothing major. I do get a few ppm tds out when I start running water, so I let it run til the tds meter reeds zero before filling my brute. Don't worry about water sitting in the unit between uses. Doesn't hurt anything. I'd like to plumb the unit into the water supply, just don't have room.

Thanks auquanut.

The directions say to run the system for 1-2 hours on the first use and discard all the water made because particles and preservatives from the carbon blocks and ro membrane. It doesn’t specifically say the di resin...should that be flushed for 2 hours too? Seems like the particles and preservatives would waste the di resin.

When I started mine, I just ran the whole unit into the drain. Probably does exhaust the DI resin some, but you'll be running the unit many many hours between changing out resin. I don't run it nearly as long into the drain when I change out individual cartridges. Maybe I should. I just go by the tds out meter.
