Hey folks I have my new reef aquarium. Is done with the cycle and now I’m doing my first water change. I notice that when I buy the RODI water is 3 TDS. In the tank is coming down to 1. But now when I wanted to mixed the salt the stored water is 6. I’ll see if it will come down in the tank. But I’m wondering what is happening. I store it in the basement is not. Please share your thoughts

The containers the water is kept in can be enough to raise the TDS.

make sure they are all food safe.

Hey are food save rated and I cleaned them as well. Bit now when I add the salt for mixing after few minutes came down to 1

I use a small glass container to check the TDS Whilst making water, if it’s 0 then I don’t check it again when in the holding container as it can affect the reading.

So your buying RO/DI water from a fish store and its 3 TDS.

You put it in your food grade container and it rises to 6.

You then mix with your salt and you test that and it goes down to 1?

There is no need to test the saltwater, as the salt mix will add its own TDS, plus I dont know that the meter is designed for seawater.
