I have an auto shutoff valve from BRS installed on my RODI unit along with a shut off valve at the 44 gallon brute can storage for it. I was thinking the shutoff was suppose to stop the waste water from being made once the back pressure from the float switch is made. However, I appear to be making waste water still. I would prefer not to waste my membrane, carbon blocks, or di resin if possible. Any advice? Troubleshooting ideas? Do these things go bad?

Thanks for the help!

I'm not certain but I believe the function of these is to keep pressure off of your float switch once the tank is full to prevent it's failure. When the tank level drops the auto shutoff opens again. I could be wrong. Or you could have it plumbed wrong.

Did the ASOV ever work? In which case there are a few things that can go wrong.

If you just installed it and its not working, then there are a few different things to check.

As Russ pointed out, it is easy to install one incorrectly, he helped me many moons ago on a similar issue.
Also keep in mind, the shutoff will not be instant, it needs to build up pressure inside before it shuts off completely.
Photos of your plumbing installation and lines would really help.

Thanks for the comments guys. I will have to double check it tonight. However, I can comment a bit. I had thought in the past it was keeping the waste water from coming out. However, I have it running into my sump and noticed the sump pump was going off quite regularly, I went down and the waste line was still running. The storage tank had been full for probably 1 day, shut off for that long and the pressure was registering 80 psi on my pressure gage. I would have thought that would have been enough to stop it. I will check and see if I have it miss installed.

If it is still running waste water you have it hooked up wrong. Here is how it should be plumbed.

Auto Shut Off Valves stop the flow of waste water when the flow of purified water is stopped (by a float valve, for example).
