i am getting ready to replace my rodi unit. My question is can I buy an eBay unit and purchase a better membrane? Or is there more to the unit then just the membrane. I use the brs di and filter components.

I think that most RO/DI housings are pretty much all the same size!
So I'm pretty sure you can by the housing from eBay and upgrade the membrane.

The more I look the more I think I will just get a spectrapure and not try to put something together doesn't look to save my money anyways

Is there any other advantage from buying a big name brand?

NO, nearly every membrane is a DOW. DOW makes the most, best performing, and economical. Most brands like Spectrapure just rebrand these DOW filters, they also give them a "special treatment" which is nothing more than presenting the membrane. They all perform the same, a RO marketed as 90gpd is the same as a 75gpd. It's just that the folks selling 75gpd filters give more typical performance ratings because to achieve 90gpd you need very specific parameters such as higher pressure, softened water, and very warm water.
