I am starting up a new tank soon and I am looking for a decent RODI unit. Tank is a 150 gallon. I'll be storing 100 gallons of fresh and 100 gallons of SW. Would like to cut down on waste water if possible. Budget would be around $500. Any suggestions?

Waste water really will depend on your input TDS, your water pressure, and if you use a water softener or not.

For that budget, I would certainly look at Spectrapure! They have new and/or refurbished units that are the best out there! I personally use a 90 GPD unit with a manual flush. I run a higher waste water percentage due to high TDS in my home water, and the fact I do not use a water softener. The Hardness of your water helps determine if you can use the lower waste water ratios.

Check out Bulk Reef Supply they offer a 150gal per day water saver option that is well within your budget. I upgraded mine to this and get very close to a 1:1.5 ratio. I use the waste water to do water changes on my freshwater tanks.

Aqua fx octopus.... 1 to 1 you will love it

Spectrapure and BRS both make excellent units, albeit pricey. One very key part is the RO membrane. There is nothing magic about this - buy a unit that has a DOW Filmtec membrane with 99% rejection. It doesn't matter whether Spetrapure, BRS or anyone else sells it - if the membrane is the same, performance will be similar. I, myself like Air Water Ice. Good membranes and parts with very fair prices. You can get a 75gpd 5-stage RODI unit with catalytic carbon upgrade for less than half of your budget. AWI has very convenient flush valves to help extend your membrane life. If you want to go to a stacked membrane system, they also have those. I currently have 2 75gpd systems to generate water for my reefs and FW tanks and use the old Spectrapure RO unit (with DI disconnected) for drinking water. Happy with all of them.
