Hi,
I scored 60 pounds of dry rock from a friend for a brand new tank and planning on doing a vinegar bath first. I live in an apt. so don't want to do a muratic acid bath with limited hose and power washing ability (January in Minnesota.) So I'll take the albeit stinky but vinegar bath indoor project!! My question is since I'll need a lot of h20 for this process could I use both the rodi I make plus the waste water for the initial process and rinses? Then switch to rodi/salt for final soaks and to start curing?
Also after initial soak and rinses I plan on doing a few hour soak in baking soda water to neutralize the vinegar. One bonus to the vinegar is that you can handle the rock- so instead of dumping in baking soda to muratic bath and potentially creating a crust on the rock I can make a controlled baking soda bath.
Lastly, most of the research I've done on cooking rock has been posted by individuals with existing tanks so they cure outside of the tank. If testing looks good after a week in my rodi/saltwater soak bin, could I put it in a tank with nothing but some bagged unseeded coral sand and use DR Tim's process? I was planning on using Dr. Tim's in the tank anyway.
