hi guys,

I have posted the following Q on a different post that I read but wanted to open it up to all the members...

To those people with RODI's can I ask about running costs.
I realise that new units vary in price but I am interested to know what everyones costs were in year ONE ( buying the unit, barrels, salt, tubing, tds meter, replacing bits on the RODI unit and electricity costs ) and then subsequesnt costs in year TWO, THREE etc...once the bigger items were up and running ( I'm guessing replacing salt and filters etc ).

I don't have a unit and frankly don't have anywhere to store one so I have to buy my water as and when I need it and I can't believe it costs me anymore to buy it than to make it myself.

This is the one I use

Depending on the size of your system, the running costs are nominal. I don’t actually now the cost because I haven’t noticed it.

I’m have a 650 litre system and change the DI resin probably 2-3 times a year and the main filters probably once a year and the system produces 0 TDS water which is a basic requirement for a marine tank.

Generally the water from LFS is not 0 TDS, but higher, and you have to carry containers around etc etc.

If you only have a small tank then maybe it not worth it, but it’s relatively inexpensive in the scale if things in the marine hobby.

I get my water from a fellow reefer and I know that the TDS is zero. I wondered what everyone's set up costs were ?. and what you pay for salt on a yearly basis...and of course if the RODI unit is away from the tank then you need to carry barrels anyway...
