Hello!

I have a quick question; I live in California where it gets pretty hot in the summer (107 today). I want to get a large Brute can, or something similar to store my RODI or Salt Water, however I am worried of the effects the heat could have? Does anyone have any insight in this? I know I've been told to keep a heater and a power-head in it, but will the heat itself cause any issues?

Appreciate any advice.

I keep my RODI in a 65 gallon water storage tank in my garage. I don't have a power head in it. When I mix SW i will use a brute can and let it heat up in winter but in the summer the water term is close to my tank temp.

I would think that RODI would be fine. And I cannot think of any reason why having say 90 degree Fahrenheit salt water would cause a problem. I do not think that it is heat labile. But it might cause a problem adding hot water to your aquarium.

Will I still get substantial Evaporation even with the lid on? I'm guessing I should still always double check the water to verify it's salinity is fine, as well as bring the smaller buckets in the house before a water change to let it cool down?

I use Reef Crystals and have tried this before. I have found after 48 hours or so I start getting a brownish residue that I don’t want to introduce into my tank. I do store RO water and mix the salt the day before my WC and have no issues.

Ok, I use Red Sea, so it's probably not a good idea to store the salt water, just the RODI?

All salts are different and I know my residue is from the Reef Crystals, I’ve heard other Salts store better. I would make up 5G and store it and see what happens.
