I have not been getting any production out of my RODI unit. I figured it was the membrane so I replace the membrane. Tinkering around with it I realize that if I did not use the connector in the picture below. My unit will produce water. My question is do I need this piece? I I went to the local fish store and got a spare. But if I don’t need it I won’t put it on. Thanks in advance.

It looks like an auto-shutoff valve? I think it may need 2 lines in and 2 lines out. I seem to recall it just shuts off the RO when it feels back pressure from a float switch (or similar). Can you confirm it's hooked up right?

That is exactly what it it. I am pretty sure, it is an older unit so I am trying to figure it out through YouTube. Since I am adding to a brute with an auto shutoff, I am thinking of leaving it off. Just don’t want to put myself in an ahh s.... situation.

It is not required. I do not have one on my system. I believe the reason for them is so that if your outlet water gets stopped by a float valve (or anything that stops the output) it causes water to stop flowing into the membrane. If you remove it and you use a float valve water will still continue to run through the waste side of the membrane even though you are not outputting clean water.

If you remove it make sure to manually kill pressure to the whole unit when you aren't making water.

By kill pressure, do you mean just stop water flowing to the unit? Or actually drain the rodi unit.

Sorry I should've worded it better, but yes just turn the water off going to the unit. For what it's worth if I were you I'd keep it installed. If you ever forget to turn the water off you could potentially waste huge amounts of water without it.
