Getting ready to enter the saltwater world. I have a well that tested at a hardness of 8 a while back. I currently run a whole house water filter, with a 5 micron filter.

Given those parameters—and let me know if anything else is needed to provide recommendations—what size(# of stages) should I get for my RODI system?

I do plan on a booster pump regardless of the system I purchase, due to my water pressure.

Thanks in advance!

How much water do you want to make?

I am on a well, well water TDS is low, i am thinking about 40PPM. Also use 5 micron whole house filter.

I use a 5 stage, 75 GPD unit. Carbon is moot since well water has no chlorine. Whole house filter gets most of the sediment. I change filters once a year just because, but they are still pretty clear.

DI consumption is minimal, water past membrane is 0-4 PPM, DI eats the rest. Change membrane when TDS increases, maybe every 2 years.

The unit I use is Air Water Ice typhoon 5 stage. Plug and play. Great unit but Walter sold the company and prices went up so I would shop around. BRS and Buckeye Hydro get good recommendations but I can't vouch for them.

And yes to the booster pump!

Make sure to get inline TDS meter. Pressure gauge too if you get a booster pump.

If that total hardness of 8 is grains/gal then your water is considered HARD.

do you have a water softener system in the house?

or is that 8 ppm? (which would be SOFT)

I’m on well,I use a booster pump and 2 150 gpd membranes
I’d rather change filters than use water, that’s just my situation

Most RO/DI systems will do fine as long as they use standard fittings and the DI chamber can be manually filled. six months ago I got the Aquqticlife Smart Buddie Booster Pump for 50-100gpd filters. It lowered my water usage by 2,500 gallons a month. It was a game changer. It flushes itself, detects pressure to storage and the best thing it’s half the price of comparable units. And everything is color coded for easy setup.

Thanks for the replies. My water is 8 grains/gallon..so hard water. Don’t have a softener.
Being on a well, the Smart Buddy Booster is appealing to help reduce waste water.

Will also be buying an inline TDS meter and also a pressure gauge

Just be aware that hard water and RODI systems don't always play nice.
sometimes hard water can cause the RO membrane to scale (foul up) rather quickly.
If that is the case, a water softener before the RODI might be needed.
