Hello,
Not too sure where to post so please move if in the wrong forum.
In the market for an rodi system, wanted to see what the general consensus was on this:

Any feedback would be appreciated, want to buy from marine depot since I have a buttload of rewards points to use from there.
First off, Welcome to Reef 2 Reef!!

It looks real nice and I figure it will do the job.

Last year these two models came on sale for 25% off during the summer.

Jumped on the 100 gpd model and love it... :)

Spectrapure has a very good unit and reputation. They also test the membranes in house to sell 99.9% rejection if you use/care for them properly. I buy my membrane replacements from them for a commonly known seller of units. They always arrive moist with the test date written on the label.

Have you tried the high end Dow's.
If so, do you still like the Spectrapure's RO membranes better than the Dow?

I have tried both, Spectrapures still seem to have an edge on them but only slightly. I run Spectrapures for both my RO membranes and don't regret them one bit. It is important to know though that not every spectrapure system comes with there ultra membranes installed in them...

@martinelias1983 The system you have selected is certainly one of the best systems out there IMO, you'd be hard pressed to find a better system. Just be sure if you do purchase a spectrapure system, especially that one, upon installation you cut your flow restrictors appropriately. Spectrapure has a very informative but rather bland video on the process to do this properly.

Also for a system that size you may need a booster pump to run it properly, when you receive your system be sure to check your incoming PSI and this will tell you whether or not a booster pump is needed.

Josh,
Thanks for the incite.
My (factory) RO membrane on my new unit, is just about spent.

I'll try the Spectrapure Ultra and see how it does.

How old is your unit? Only one year? If this is the case and your RO membrane is spent I would be concerned there is an underlying issue that's causing your membrane to spoil prematurely.... DOW membranes are solid and should last a few years on average depending on your water conditions.

Josh,
The new unit is about 9 months old and came with and off brand RO membrane.

I'm used to running the Dow. Always wanted to try the Spectra Ultra, but never pulled the trigger.

Is there a Spectrapure mixed bed DI resin that's better (l,ast Longer) than the BRS mixed bed DI resin?

I think I remember seeing a brs video that said even the off brand membranes are still usually still made by dow (at least I think I remember seeing it). I've been getting a much longer life from my mixed bed resin from brs after I installed a valve between my ro and di stages to flush tds creep before making water

Thanks for the response guys, definitely feel good about pulling the trigger on this unit.
As for the booster pump, should I just get one off the bat? Will it produce without it at least for a few days?
I ask because I got a new tank still in box waiting for me to fill it when I move and it would be a bummer to get the brakes slammed on me.

It will make water, it may be very slow if you have low pressure though

I would hold off on the booster pump. If you do discover that you do need one you can run single membrane and still produce plenty of water per day while you wait for the pump. :)

A single membrane will run perfectly fine on 50-60 PSI but a dual membrane set up will not.

Up to you Though, are you on city water or a well?

60 PSI is good enough for 1 membrane, IMO you really should have 80+ to run dual membranes. I have dual membranes and 85ish PSI in the first with only about 45-50 PSI going into the second. So with 60~ PSI your second membrane will definately be under performing....
