I am using a new RODI (Kleanwater 6 stage). I have broken in each stage as directed and the end result is 0 tds. However, when I measure tds after the membrane/before DI, the tds is 97. Tds out of the tap is also 97. It has a built in pressure gauge and pressure into the membrane is 55. I checked the membrane and it is seated properly. Any suggestions as to why the membrane is not removing ANY tds?
Thanks in advance.

ETA: if I decide to use the water using the system as-is, other than exhausting my DI more quickly, are there any potential issues?

Something is wrong with the filter, membrane,??
As long as you are getting zero tds the water should be fine and you will burn through resin quickly with the membrane not doing it's job, like 95x's faster than it is supposed to.

It's a brand new filter system and brand new membrane, so I just don't know. I might try swapping my membrane + housing from my old unit and see if there's a difference...
Thanks for the reply

I would check to make sure you are measuring the permeate out of the membrane and not the waste.

Not to insult your intelligence but, sometimes the simplest answers are correct. Have you doublechecked that the membrane and flow direction are all correct? My experience with the 3 different RO systems I have owned says to me that something is not running right with yours. Is there a bypass for the RO membrane that is closed off? Is there anything between the prefilters and the membrane that could allow the water to go around the RO stage? Is the RO stage connected properly? Don't laugh, but is the RO membrane cartridge installed in the system? I ask cause I have seen that before.

Yes, that's why this is so frustrating! Believe me, I did quite a bit of googling and inspecting before posting. I do have a spare new membrane and am going to try that... Maybe this one is just bad.
Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the help, Jedi, Krisreef, and Oceanminded; it must have been a bad membrane because since I put the new one on, everything seems to be working. 97 tds out of the tap, 1 tds out of the membrane, and 0 after the DI.

Curious as to why no one asked this, but, what is the make of the RO/DI system. It will help those that have the same system help you. I have a 7 stage BRS system.

Usually you have to let the system run for 24 hours to let the newness rub off. The TDS can be higher on a new setup.

No one asked because I listed the brand and model in my OP.

Awesome.. perhaps you can get a replacement from the vendor? RO membranes are not cheap. If they sent you a bad one, you should get a replacement.
Maybe... I bought it from Marine Depot before they went out of business and am just now setting it up. I will contact BRS Tuesday and see what they say. Thanks

Question, and I can only go by BRS, but, have you run it for 24 hours and dispose of the water produced before taking readings. You do have to break in the membranes before using it. BRS will likely ask you this as well.

As I stated, I followed the break in procedure. As posted above, the problem has been corrected.

Marine Depot is now BRS??? This is disappointing. I have purchased many items from MD. BRS is overpriced for almost everything they sell. I am sad to learn this is the case.
