Hello all,

Previously i was using conditioned tap water for my 30 gallon reef tank ( i dont have any fish at the moment). The tanks been up for about a year and ive always have problems with diatoms, so i bought a cheap ro buddie unit to see if it would stop the diatoms. A couple of days after the ro water was added to the tank i started to notice lots of green stuff on the rocks. I think it might be green hair algae. The conditions in the tank have not changed so could it be just a coincidence that the algae appeared. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Howdy,
regardless of what RODI unit you bought the TDS will tell a lot as far as diatoms goes. When it comes to a GOOD RODI unit you need to have 0 TDS product water or you will always have issues with poor water and diatoms or the like. Maybe you just need to replace all of the filters and membrane or bite the bullet and buy a good unit.
Most, if not all successful systems begin with good water.

I just tasted the waste and clean water and the supposedly clean water tasted like a penny while the supposed waste water tasted like nothing, but the waste water is still producing more than the clean water

It have nothing to do with your TO/DI unit, after diatom completely normal the green algae. That is a cycle.
