RODI unit

so I was curious if those with more experience can tell if this unit would work for my new saltwater setup. I found this and I like the fact it is drinking safe bc my wife loves water and this is a way to convince her to let me buy it. Because I had planned on not using a RODI but the more I saw it would be a waste to use well water.

A few things. It doesn't specify the microns on the sediment and carbon filters, alot of people like the 0.5-5 micron filters. It has more carbon filters then you need... You will be turning one into a di canister. Di works more effectively vertical. You definitely want the inline TDs meter. You will also want a pressure gauge befor your first carbon filter. You may also find a TDs pen beneficial

Be sure you are only drinking RO water and not the DI output. RODI water is so devoid of minerals it can literally suck the minerals out of your mouth tissue.

This is true. That's why commercial machines (like glacier water, etc) in front of grocery stores don't offer DI.

Ok I think I'll just buy a refurbished spectrapure unit. Seems it'll be what I need without me having to change anything. No reason to over think it so I'll just go with the unit made specifically for this hobby. This is the one I'll prob be getting next week. Going to Houston to tailgate this weekend so not going to start my tank till I get back. Thanks for the advice.

Yea that's a nice set up but not what u want. You can go on amazon and add the water tank and spout. I was just getting ready to send you that exact link. I have a kent and if anything happens to it I'm buying what your getting.

Ok so I'm fixing to order my RODI unit and TDS tester. I was going to do the dual in like TDS tester but have read on here that that wasn't the best way. So this is what I plan on getting and running a tee and ball valve at the beginning and end to be able to test my TDS levels. Just making sure this is everything I'll need.

I use the pressure gauge on my spectrapure and that exact handheld checker, nothing else. I have a calendar reminder for every 6 months to replace carbon/sediment filters (socal water is particularly high in TDS, your mileage may vary) and so far I've had no issues with TDS creeping up or exhausting DI resin and I check after running the unit a few minutes, during the process, and at the end to verify 0 TDS the whole way through. I actually think the DI resin has hardly moved which is a testament to Spectrapure's membrane and pre-filtering.

The kit ships with a standard threaded hose adapter, are you looking for a specific one for a specific purpose? otherwise the one that ships with it should work fine.

Good choice. I'm going to be buying a set of their .5micron filters as well as 99% rejection RO membrane and DI resin to replace my 5 micron filters and other filters. My current unit (which is Melev's Reef) is getting 80+ TDS passed the RO which is horrible (my incoming water from the street is 800TDS) hoping spectrapure can do the job.

P.s. You might be able to find a hand held TDS meter for cheaper on Amazon.

I thought the kit came with the sink adaptor which was why I had that on the list. So I'll take that off and unless I find a TDS tester much cheaper I'll just buy this one so everything arrives at the same time. From what I can tell the filters come with the unit so once those need changing I'll prob go to the .5 also but trying to keep cost down right now. Just can't wait to start my tank up. It's killing me having an empty tank in my living room without water in it. As far as glue goes to glue my dry rock together is any glue ok or does it have to be something specific? On videos I've seen they talk about using superglue but they could mean one of the glues on the reef sites. If any will work then that's great but I don't want to buy something that will hurt my reef.
