I bought an 8 stage ro/di from Canada... They even give u a tds meter... Had it for 6 months and it's a great unit .., 0 tds every time so far... Chk out aquasafe canada the unit was about 215 shipped and I got it within a week. I also bought their booster pump bc my pressure was too low... But u might not need that, oh and the ro/di comes w a small storage tank and a faucet as well

Spectrapure.
When you shop ebay, you usually get what you pay for and with RO/DI thats not where you want to be.

Don't pay any attention to the word "STAGES". This is an old trick from the ebay vendors to make a worthless drinking water system with a couple extra granular carbon cartridges or little hollow horizontal tubes with a little dried out resin in them sound like the best thing since sliced bread when they are not. You want 4 stages for a RO/DI, usually no more and no less. More is not necessarily better in this case. Pay attention to what is in the stages not how many there are. You want one high quality, low micron sediment filter and 1 micron absolute rated like Spectapure sells is many times more efficient than the nominal rated versions most others sell. You want one low micron solid extruded carbon block, again more is not better and high micron carbons will not last nearly as long nor filter as well. One high rejection rate RO membrane and one full size vertical 20 oz refillable DI filter filled with factory fresh DI resin. Little horizontal DI tubes do not work as well since the water channels or short circuits along the bottom and not all resin gets wetted. Vertical DI's fill from the bottom and exit the top so all resin and water come into contact with each other.

I am going to purchase this unit in the very near future, and I was wondering if this comes with a TDS meter or will I have to buy one separately? If separate, are there any that are recommended or you advice against?

I have got some smoking hot deals on ebay and some real duds. I would be prepared to buy replacment filters, membrains or DI resin its a roll of the dice. It could cost you more than saved. I have used a spectrapure system for many years with maintance and updates along the way. It was a Ro only when new LOL. IMO thay as good as it gets and you cant go wrong.

With ebay you will not get reef quality unless you stick with one of the known vendors and you wil spend the same there as if you went to them directly from a site like this.

The $130 Spectrapure system does not come with a TDS meter. My suggestions would be a HM Digital TDS-3, TDS-4TM, or AP-1, any of the three can be found for $20-$30 and all are temperature compensated so very accurate. I do not recommend the inline style unless you want something for a quick check but lacks the accuracy of a hand held which you would still need.

BRS does not sell the same quality systems as places like Spectrapure, Buckeye Fied Supply or PurelyH2o. There really is a difference. Love their chemicals but their RO is just average.

I always thought both brs and spectra pure used Dow membranes. I know their di resin is awesome though.

Spectrapure starts with Dow Filmtec membranes but they improve them with a special proprietary process then test them for quality control, you don't find that elsewhere except for Buckeye Field Supply who now offers tested membranes.
FAQ p.2
No other vendor offers a 99% rejection rate membrane.
FAQ p.2

As you mentioned, their DI resins can't be beat. They custom blend all their own resins to be the very best and have tens of thousands of hours testing under their belt, the aquatics hobby is only a small part of their water treatment business.

lonner1 i just got a spectrapure 90gpd like 2 weeks ago and it is working perfectly. the assembly was a piece of cake and had it up and running in 20mins. 240$ but well worth it. currently at 98% rejection and 0TDS at 40psi.
