Hi! So, what would be the possibility of using RODI waste water after adding salt for a fish only quarantine tank?

I’m going to experiment with advanced oxidation process to see how it purifies my tap water. Will require ICP testing to determine its effect and might help in your case but understand that depending on your tap it might have very high concentrations of calcium and magnesium and might need cutting still with RODI to balance it out. There’s ways to purify water other than RODI and really depends on your tap source as certain metals might not get removed and not known how they affect fish in higher concentrations that would exist in that run off. Not all tap created equal.

It would be nice if people did something with it other than just pump 4 gallons of water down the drain for every 1 gallon of product water they make.

Direct waste line to lawn and planters that you'd otherwise need to water anyway (like mentioned in post #2).
*I get that if the individual doesn't own a home on property with landscaping, that doesn't apply

I use my rodi waste water for outdoor plants.
I have a lot of planter boxes and I am able to collect the waste water in a 55 gallon barrel outside.
Not much use for it in the winter and early spring, but definitely helps with the water bill in the summer.

Hey @mfinn - I'm thinking about doing something like this as well....

Once you have the RODI go into that barrel, do you have a system to disburse the water to the plants or do you do it by hand?

And how do you manage a scenario where the barrel is full?

Following. I have 2 x 200g tanks and do 12 - 15% water changes a week - which means a lot of RO/DI water waste. Currently it just seeps into some tall trees on the side of our yard but love the idea of storing in a 55 g drum to then disperse to all outdoor plants (we live in SoCal so 3/4 of the year is quite dry).

I do this by hand. I keep a 2 gallon bucket that sits on top of the barrels lid. I have 4 large cedar planters around my patio, along with a half dozen other large pots with plants. They all have different water needs, so hand watering is best.
When I first directed water outside to a barrel, I had 2 specific outlets on the waste line with a series of valves that would water 2 large jasmine plants ( 32 gallon garbage containers ) but found water would channel it's way down through the pot and leave most of it dry. The water flow from the 1`/4" waste line was very low pressure and would not cover the 2' diameter surface I needed it to go.
So I just dip buckets. So on cool summer mornings, it's a thing and it's nice to do something when it's cool.
I also have a small pumpkin patch ( grand kids pick before halloween). But with the warmer weather happening lately it's usually a sprinkler thing.

When the barrel gets full ( doesn't happen much in the spring and summer), the overflow waters a couple trees and plants next to it.
