RODI Waste

Second membrane. You can also try to find ways to use the waste water so it isn't "wasted". Many years ago I would fill up my washing machine with it.

Ok so I’m curious how much your water bill increases with these RODI units?
I can't give you an exact amount that mine increased (because I don't remember) but it wasn't much but the answer to your question is going to change drastically based upon how much water you intend to make each month.

So I just did the math on it. I make a little under 100 gallons of rodi water each month. If my waste:rodi water ratio is 4:1 which is pretty common (I suspect mine is a little better because I run high pressure) it means I use 500 gallons of water per month. I pay $.01395 per gallon which means that at most I pay for water is $6.97 per month for water changes and top off on a 125g tank and a 29g quarantine. That doesn't include my sewage charge which is slightly less than my water so I probably spend around $13/month total. Compared to the cost of everything else in the hobby that is insignificant IMO.

Oh yea!!! That $6.97 is less than a number 1 at McDonalds lol. I thought it was going to be some outrageous. What RODI unit do you use? Just trying to get some idea of what’s popular

I use an aquafx barracuda with a 100gpd membrane that I have added one extra sediment filter to. It's a cheap filter but ultimately they're just plastic housings to hold the actual filters/membrane.

It is not cost efficient, but you can buy a zero waste rodi if you really want(it pushes the waste back into your house water system).

The brs units seem to be the most popular. Personally i buy the cheapest i can find that use the standard 10" chambers. Most of them use the same basic parts it just a matter of which bells and whistles you want(tds meters, booster pumps, etc). Stay away from things like "ro buddy" that use nonstandard filters.

Thank you, you said cheapest and that’s the first thing I thought about lol

Yes with the two RO membrane stages and built in flush valves and pressure gauge(same exact unit about $6 cheaper on amazon with free shipping).

Only thing to point out is that does not have a DI stage. You can add that on as a 6th stage yourself though and probably still a fair price.

Not as much as you would think, most of a water bill is set changes, so even if you use zero water you still get a bill, using an extra 1000 litres of water costs me less than $5.
