Hi,

I set up a 25 gallon tank not to long ago, its still cycling with no fish in it.
I've been using Primo water from a local refill station. Is this water good enough to use?

Here is there process. I know its reverse osmosis, not 100% sure on the de ionized part.

could someone please help?

That chart make the water sound pretty good but I seriously doubt it's actually that clean (keep in mind I've never heard of primo water). Only way to know for sure would be to test it. Use a cheap tds meter at least (icp test at best)

Any reason you don't just buy distilled water from the grocery store?

That is RO water, but not RODI. It’s likely that there are still contaminates in it. In general you Shouldn’t drink RODI water, so you aren’t going to find a source of RODI water at a place that sells drinking water.

Oh okay. i mean in general is it okay. in the future i can try and get RODI or i might just by a thing on brs to do it

The problem is that you just don’t know if it’s ok. There are things that RO filters don’t filter out, like heavy metals and silicates, so if the source water had things like that then the water wouldn’t be good to use.

But if the source water was relatively clean then it could be safe to use. There’s just no way to just look at it and tell.

Like gallon jugs? this is way cheeper 39 c a gallon
Yes gallon jugs. The main ingredient in your fish tank is the water, it's not something you want to skimp on... Imo distilled or buying your own rodi unit are the only ways to go.

I see.... well i might just get an RODI kit at this point it is cheeper in the long run

Its' RO only but ok to use. better than tap and distilled.

I ran a 125 Gal about 10 years ago for like 3 years on store bought RO water just fine. I came back into the hobby recently and decided I didn’t want to lug around 5 Gal bottles of water anymore so I built a water making/mixing station with a BRS RODI I bought from a fellow Reefer.

I think the water tastes great and I know what I'm drinking versus just a Brita filter or RO water. It's super convenient for me too since I can just pour from my 55G storage drum.
