So I've been trying to sort out a reason why my fresh, RODI container has a strong locker room smell to it. It's stored in a grey Brute container and this just started recently.

I'm also getting .08 phosphate out of the RODI itself - which is causing a bit of an algae issue. I tested straight from the RODI so it wasn't water sitting in the Brute....

I'm figuring it's something to do the RODI unit but I don't know which filter to replace. My DI resin is only a few months old but I do go through about 50g a week so I guess that's 200 or so total a week?

Any ideas?

Yes - but I also use two different temp-adjusted hand held units. RODI comes out at zero's....and is zero going into the DI, but I've always heard that you can't really trust the inline readers.

Hey thanks - yeah, AZ always has good advice.

I just thought I should clarify - by locker room smell I mean that it's just kind of a bad smell, like a damp place gets. Nothing growing on the inside of the container like mold or anything, but smells like it - or when you leave laundry in the machine too long before drying.

Could just be the brute, they sometimes have a funky small, even new.

What did you use to test for Phosphates? Smell I believe is just from the Brute Can itself, I noticed it with mine also took a long time before it went away or I just got use to it.

RO/DI has virtually no ions in it and is very unstable. If you want to test for phosphates, use the ro/di to mix up a batch of saltwater 1.026sg then test it. I do not believe test kits will acurately measure ro/di.

Ah - I didn't know that. I'll test again using some from the mixed container. I'm using the Red Sea kit....

This is also a new issue - I've had it up and running for a year without the smell...

Smells like sweat. I have no idea also but i can relate, lets see what others have to say

I only run the ro/di when the ro/di container get near empty. At least once a month let it completely dry out and wipe it down well. That's the only suggestion I have.
