For my ATO, I just have a 5g bucket as my tank is only a 40B at the moment. Does this bucket need cleaned out so often? If so, how often and how? The bucket does have a tight lid on it with a a hole I drilled for the power cord and water tubing. So very minimum light / air enters it.
I also plan on getting a storage container to hold RODI water before mixing. So the same question applies for this. But til then, I have a bunch of 1g containers with tight lids that I was thinking of storing water in (kinda like milk containers). Will these be ok?

If it is just RO/DI water, there's no need to ever clean it. :)

Milk jugs won't last forever (they crack as they age), but they too are OK.
Yes it's just RODI and the jugs are very temporary. Can I ask how would you care for a saltwater storage container ?

For storing normal Instant Ocean, I never did anything to it except clean it (a grey Brute trash can) when I first got it. The solids in it that accumulate are not a concern to me.

Instant Ocean is what I use.
Thanks for the help!
