Rodi Water System

I was wondering if is should get a rodi unit and if so which one would you recommend. Also, where should I put my rodi unit if I got one.

The recomendation i got was if the tank is 75g or larger it will be better to have one in your home. I have a 220g and put one in my garage and man and I glad I did. It is very nice to be able to just walk into the garage and get either fresh RODI or heated and ,ixed salt water on demand.

I have two large food grade containers, one for rodi and one for premixed saltwater. The rodi is unheated amd cold since its mostly used for ATO water and rinsing stuff. The saltwater is heated and has a power head in it to keep it mixed up.

BRS has excellent RODI units and thier customer support is the best. I am on a well and initially i noticed i was consuming DI resin very fast due to high CO2. After watching an interesting video on seperating the resins I added two additional DI cartridges to my setup. I now run seperate resins in the first two and a final mixed at the end. I have already noticed I consume the Anion resin much faster than the other. This is what they mentioned in the video. The hope is that I will only have to change out the one type more often and the others less often and this will save me some money.

In almost all cases it is recommended to use rodi water in a reef. There are some people that use tap water with great success but usually they have very low tds water to start with. A ro filter system will remove heavy metals, chlorine, chloramines and other unwanted elements that can wreak havoc on you tank. As far as which system I agree with EriksOasis that BRS filters are great, others to consider would be SpectraPure, AquaFx, Marine Depot ect... I myself found a brand new system on Craigslist and bought the water saver 150gpd upgrade from BRS. The location of your unit kinda depends on how and where your tank is, for me my tank is in the basement. I have my filter in my storage room about 15ft away. For water changes I use a Python to drain and a cheap pump with vinyl tubing to fill it, no more carrying 5gal buckets.
