I plan on getting probably around a 20 gallon long saltwater tank and it will be my first saltwater tank. Gor the water changes, I heard you had to have a RODI machine to filter out all the nasty stuff in the water, then mix it with the salt correct? Is this true? I dont want to do them incorrectly/not have good water or gear.

The RODI simply removes contaminates that are added to the water supply to clean it for human consumption. We can tolerate things in the water that the fish cannot.
This RODI water will be used for evaporation top off (no salt added) and for water changes and original water in tank (with salt added)
Getting an RODI will start you off right and be one of the best aquarium investments to make. Also... most fish stores have water for sale, but it is cheaper long term and more convenient to make it yourself.
Check out what your city puts in the water to clean it (all cities publish a water report). This report will determine how many stages of filtration you need. Post the report on this thread and we will help you make an appropriate decision.

You can also go to your local store and buy distilled water. May get expensive. Usually less than a dollar a gallon. Some local water stores sell bigger bottles of various filtered waters. Be sure to test them with a TDS meter to be sure you are getting what they claim. Like fish stores, they can let the filters go too long and produce water thats not so great.

Welcome aboard! I have a 3.4g and a 20g. I started out getting gallons of distilled from walmart and it was fine. I ended up investing in a BRS 5 stage RODI setup and I can't tell you how nice it is to have the water on hand and not have to lug the jugs from the store. It a solid investment. What kind of tank are you looking at? My 20 is a IM Fusion All in one. First time I have had an AIO and I absolutely love it.

With the 20 long, would you drill it and have a sump? If not (imho) 100% go with the bio cube or other all in one. I used to have a 120g display with a 100g sump and 50g fuge. It was an awesome setup. The all in one tanks miniaturize a system like that. Having a sump works great too. My next tank is going to be the SCA 50 PNP which has a sump. I would encourage you to do one or the other. In my fusion 20 there are places for a skimmer, heaters, bio media ,chaeto, cheato light,chemical filtration, floss etc etc. All things u can do in a sump as well.
