Serious question. Why does my RODI reservoir smell like straight pee when I take the cover off?

Its a bran new brut garbage can. So there is nothing in there but water.

Maybe the can has something in the plastic or release agent that is off gassing.
Also DI resin can have an odor to it.
Do other people in your home think it smells the same? Dont tell them what it smells like to you.

My rodi container (also a brute can) has a ammonia smell as well. Once I move it into my saltwater container and mix the salt in the smell is gone. I've been using it for AWC without any issues, although I should probably test it for ammonia honestly.

I read a comment from Randy where he indicates that the resin I gave when exhausted produces ammonia, so I would think about changing that stage

I don't know about the OP but in my case my resin is relatively new and the smell was still there right after I changed my resin.

I'm having the same issue. Even went and got another can to see if it helped but nope. Everyone I've had smell says same thing...smells like pee. I called BRS and the guy said get an ATC test done..I asked what am I'm looking for? He said heavy medals. Aren't heavy metals measured in TDS? Mine is 0..swapped out all the filters. Even got a whole home carbon filter..has to be just the trash can itself. Did you ever get an answer or resolution to your smell?

No but I was running about 3 tds so I added another resin and am now at 0 tds, now it's better. Not nearly as bad. So maybe it was the metals

I switched over from mix bed resigns to single cat. and ani...will see what it does and let you know ow
