i beleave im having problesm my rodi. over a months time i make abotu 150g of water. i dont know what the issue is but my TDS meter will say i have high TDS after abotu 3 months if that. how long dose resin normal last for. after a few moths i dont think my resin should be that going bad that fast. im on city water. can anyone tell me what i need to do to get my resin to last longer

Could be alot of things. Do a search for rodi. There is alot of info on this site.
1st what unit and membrane do you have?
2) what's the pressure and temp of the water.
3) what type of di membrane do you have?

What is your tap water TDS, RO only TDS and RO/DI TDS?
What is your water temperature and water pressure?
What is your exact measured waste ratio, not what they say it is supposed to be but what you actually measure in one minute with a measuring cup from both the treated water and waste water lines.
How old is the system? Have you kept up with filter chages every 6 months and disinfected the system at least annually?
Do you use high quality, low micron replacement sediment and carbon block filters?
How old is your DI cartridge/resin? Is it high quality resin and was it stored properly before installation if you bought it in bulk or ahead of time?
Have you ever ran hot or warm water through the membrane? Cold water ONLY. Blending hot and cold is the fastest wy there is to ruin a membrane.
Have you vere allowed the membrane or DI to dry out once it has been in use?

The responses to the above should enable myself and others to troubleshoot your problems.

right now i dont know what the TDS all is. i wont find out until tomorrow when i can call someone to check it. the RODI is hooked to my cold water so hot water isnt a factor and i have no to check the temp. pressure i will have to ask but i think its about 45 after the membrain. i change the filters once a year sould i change them more. i replaced my resin in dec and thes stored in the bags i get from BRS. the membrain is a 150 or a 100 per day i cant remember any more. all of the parts come from BRS. and my membrain dose have to right flow restrictor. system is 9 years old and i hav never disinfected it. didnt know i needed to or know how to. i replaced my membrain a year ago i believe and it was never dried out

Without knowing your TDS numbers, temperature, pressure and waste ratio there is no way to troubleshoot the system, all those numbers are critical and the only way it can be done.
Just because someone says you have the correct flow restrictor does not mean that is correct, you need to measure the waste ratio yourself as it is rarely correct with fixed restrictors.

Yes, you should be replacing the sediment and carbon block filters every 6 months and disinfecting the system at least annually if not at every filter change since it only takes 5 minutes at most and you already have the system apart for service anyway.
DI resin has a shelf life of about 6 months under perfect conditions and much less if not stored correctly, moist in a vacuum sealed bag and in the back of the refrigerator. Once the bag has been opened it dries out quickly and loses its electrical properties. Try not to buy any more than you use in 6 months time, one cartridge or refill from Spectrapure lasts me about a year so I make it a point to buy it about a month before I expect the old resin to exhaust.

If you have the 100 or 150 GPD membrane you need to pay special attention as both are less efficient than the industry standard 75 GPD and will eat DI resin much quicker. Places like Spectrapure will not sell a 100 GPD Dow Filmtec and they discontinued the 150 as it did not meet their quality control testing. Stick with a 75 GPD Dow Filmtec or Spectrapures treated and tested 90 GPD which starts out life as a Dow 75 but gets improved.

It just about impossible to own a RO/DI wihout having a handheld TDS meter too, its your only way to know what your system is doing. They are only $20-$25 for a very good one and can be a life saver.

i do have a TDS meter on it. i have it places between the membrain and DI and one after the DI. i jsut cant check it caues im not at home for the next year. i have a few packs of vaccum saved resin should i place them in teh frig then or should i sell them before they go bad? how do i disinfect it. what should my TDS be reading at the locations that i have it intalled at. where should i get new filters. if this issure is cause i have an ineffectent membrain them i guess ill but a new one and flow restrictor.

TDS readings will be entirely dependent on your tap water TDS and how well your RO membrane is functioning. You should expect to see a RO only TDS of 96 to 98% less than whatever the tap water TDS was to begin with. The dual inline TDS meter is not much good for this since it only measures in two places so you don't know what the tap water TDS is. I have two dual inlines but honestly never even turn them on, I rely solely on my handheld TDS meter since it can test anywhere and is more accurate.

The DI TDS should be 0 regardless of what the other readings are, if its above 0 then the resin needs changing. Old resin loses its anion and cation electrical properties so is not much good and will not last long. This could be your problem.

I have posted disinfectio techniques amny many times on all the reef forums so a quick search should bring it up. If not Spectrapure and other sites have their procedure on their websites.
Get all your TDS readings, temperature, pressure and waste ratio before thinking about replacing the membrane, it may very well be OK but you need all those readings to know.

I buy all my filters from Spectrapure, they only sell the best absolute rated sediment filters and 0.5 micron carbon blocks and are worth the few $$ difference due to quality. They also custom blend every ounce of their DI resins on site based on tens of thousands of hours of testing both in the lab and real world using beta testers all over the world. Their resins are vacuum sealed in mylar foil bags and keep pretty well when factory sealed but I still never buy more than I can use.

if i was to just replace my RO unit with a more new one what would you advise

the one i have now is a kent and i got all the filters from BRS. has the dual tds meter, and a pressure gage between the membrane and the carbon block. it kind of looks sloppy so i also considering just replacing it. once im able to get someone to check it for me i will get you the TDS readings, temp and pressure and the waste ratio.

This one:MAXPURE MPDI SYSTEM

You won't find a better system for twice the price. You can install your inline TDS meter on it and have a top of the line reef quality system.
