Roe/Eggs for frozen food

I'm new, trying to make frozen fish food and would like to include fish eggs. Google is confusing and seems to be saying hard row are eggs, soft roe is sperm but whatever.

When I look to buy cod roe it looks like a filet.....

are these just huge testicles and are these as good as the small round eggs? I cannot seem to find where to buy the small eggs I imagine in my head but maybe thats not what is best. Thoughts?

You are looking for eggs from fish like capelin, atlantic cod and saithe. Be sure its not dyed or has any additves.

If live near an asian market you can often find fresh roe, like above need to be specific about additives, they will add wasabi, and other adulterants to them.

Living on the east coast i source mine from a sea food market. And stick with lobster roe as its cheaper for me and where i buy they add nothing to it.

You have the break apart the egg sack(the picture you posted) and you will get small eggs. You will need to do a ton of rinsing with saltwater. Cod has a gooey roe sack and is kinda gross.

I see cooked lobster roe online, is cooked ok? Do you know of any place online which looks good lobster or otherwise?

I have bought eggs from a sushi place before. They were the small orange eggs. And they tend to just sink before anything can eat them. Kind of hard to feed fish unless you target feed.

They work well for fish that wont eat like angels in a bare bottom observation tank. Water column eaters not so much. Can mix into diy food for “wet pellets”
Mix roe, diced clams and fish, some blended algae and a binder(i use alginate). Roll into balls mix only what you feed over 2-3 days refrigerate after making.

I have only ever bought from a seafood market myself, have never used cooked or bought online. I am on the southern end of the same fishery that maine is in, so boats come in with their catch and sell.
Google sushi grade fish for sale. These places have to have special refrigeration units to kill the parasites that come from raw fish. Are the same places that Japanese restaurants will source their ingredients from. Most places ive been there is one in driving distance. The restaurant manager in me idea anyway lol.

I use Masago, which are capelin eggs that are dyed and seasoned. They may not be the best, but after 12 years of using them, I've seen no ill effects.
