Roller for the Innovative Marine RFS 22

Does anyone know if there is a compatible roller for the IM RFS22 sump. Any advice is appreciated
 
Swinging back around to see if anything new has happened on this front

When I asked Innovative Marine this question about a month ago, they did not have anything in the works.
 
Some people have used a dremel to create space but I haven’t seen a lot of images.
 
I'm thinking 2 routes right now. Klir DI-4 or the ReefMat 250.

The ReefMat is very close to too big, but I think with a little bit of dremel work I could eke out just enough space based on the dimensions without having to tear apart the entire sump. The spec sheet has the media compartment opening at 4.2 inches, but I have yet to measure it myself.

The biggest worry I have with these is the flow rate. The MightyJet XL that came with my 50 EXT is something around 1050 GPH to 2500 GPH (assuming not accounting for head height), and the ReefMat 250 lists 900 GPH on the specs. Klir DI-4 is similarly low at 750 GPH, but at least you can fit 2 of those side by side to theoretically double it. I think 900 GPH is probably plenty of turnover for a 50 gallon display, but if the pump is too fast I'll have to figure out a way to restrict the flow.

Either way I plan to detail the process in a build thread.

I aked IM and they say people user the KlirD.

I have an INT 100 with and RSF 39 on order. I also have a klir D on hand. I will let you know in January :)
Yeah I have one. Never put it in the rfs22 …. It’s a pain replacing the roll. I have a larger Reefmat in larger tank and really want the 250 in the im50. Was thinking of putting it in the middle chamber somehow
 
it’s probably possible to put the ReefMat in the larger rsfs. You would move the skimmer to the third chamber (fuge) and plumb the primary drain to connect to the reefmat in the second chamber.

I believe the RSF 22 only has 3 chambers, so it would need to squeeze the reefmat + skimmer into the second chamber which j might be really tight or you would need to underside the skimmer. I am not an expert on this at all but I don’t know if that would be a good idea

Easy solution - get a different pump :)

I went with a Varios 6 that I can adjust down to much lower flow.

Also keep in mind those flow ratings are optimal (nothing stuck/slowing down flow), at 0 head height. Once you calculate the length of your return and number of 90 degree turns that flow rate degrades significantly
 
When I talked to IM a while back they said the same thing. People are able to install Klir Di4 but hadn't heard of anything else working/fitting yet. I have the RFS27 but still waining on some people to place the tank for me. it's really really heavy.

Complelty unrelated, but out of curiosity on the RFS27

1) do you think you can keep the lid over the first sump changer and also run a Klir 4?

2) what are the diameter of the holes in the lids over each sump chamber?

Not sure what you want me to measure. The holes in the kid are 1” drilled. It takes 4” filter socks below (3 of them) the skimmer hole is 9” but off center so 1/2” on left and ~2” on right 1” from back and 6” from front.

Ok cool. So those little holes on the lid are 1” in diameter? I am planning on running UV in mine and trying to figure out how I’d plumb in

It’s just acrylic so you could drill a hole easily and if you messed up, HD or Lowe’s sells acrylic you could easily cut to replace.
 
I've been hacking away at my RFS-22 for the week and am getting pretty close. I ended up actually just cutting the stock plumbing so I didn't have to remove the first 2 baffles. That said, I may end up removing them anyway because diverting the drains creates a weird void in the sump that could under certain circumstances get water in it. Gonna grab the sump modification kit and give it a go.

I have a build thread I'll update when I'm done with the exact mods I made.

Are you trying to fit an actual reefmat in there? What size?


Would you hang it on the size of the sump, and then have 1-2 lines plumb into it?

If so I would be very interested in seeing pictures of your progress.
