I have the red sea roller on legs in my sump. And i turned it on like few days ago.. i was heavy feeding the tank for a while. While the roller matt is off. Now its rolling like wild a day. Is that normal? I have high nutrients like 0.20 phosphate, and 15 nitrate with 2 clowns. Its crazy. But im up on my water changes. But is that normal for the roller to pull that much i have it on 0.6 length

Which size mat and size of your tank? It’s definitely not uncommon for the first time you start running a mat that it uses it self up like crazy while it’s filtering out all the debris/ detritus, especially if you have been heavily feeding. if it persists longer than one roll I would look for other causes. Also, are you carbon dosing? That can exacerbate the clogging problem. I’ve also seen heavy frozen food use make it worse and clog easier.

I would say that’s appropriately sized. I ran one on a Red Sea max 900 around the same volume and after initial break and I would get around four weeks of usage per roll depending on feeding.

The water level in the sump in relation to the roller might be too high. I keep my reefmats submerged only about 4" down and have an ultra high bioload tank to get a similar useage to yours.
