Hey reefers I’m looking at getting a roller mat for my 230 gallon just wanna know what would be the best one to get and is it worth getting a roller mat?

If you hate changing and washing filter socks, I would say yes (ask me what I'm doing as I write this, thinking about whether I should also invest in a filter roller...). The Clarisea ones seem quite popular - I see threads mentioning them all the time. The only caveat is that if you have an existing filter sock tray system you usually have to remove them. There are some drop-in models, but I don't know if they're as good as the Clarisea.

For your size thank I would say the Clarisea SK5000 would be my top recommendation. Second would be the Bubble Magus large. I have and use the SK5000 and also have the BM medium that I was happy with until I couldn't get new rolls for it. (which has been resolved since)

Either will serve the purpose and will work well. The Clarisea is built a bit stronger, has a few more bells and I think larger rolls, both of which are more expensive than the BM equivlents. I'm not sure on the actual real max flow rates of the two. Both use basically the same float switch arrangements for controlling the advancement of the roll.

There are other options. There's the drop-in Klir but for such a large tank the Klir may not be the best option due to size/flow. The most expensive is the Triton sumps with built-in roller mat. I have no experience with any of those. I do wish I could afford the Triton!

As long as I have the choice I won't ever go back to socks!
