Anyone else "lose interest" for a while (to the point of getting by with minimal maintenance, never on the boards), then gain interest again (to the point of spending all free time on forums and in front of tank, all $ go to the fishes), over and over like a cycle?

And how do you keep balance, such as not getting burnt out (even for short periods of time), other hobbies, etc.. ??

I am at one of the low points of interest right now, but I still love the hobby and know the fire will return. I would kick myself if I let the tank go or got rid of it all together.. couple weeks from now the only thing I'll probably be thinking about is some hot new corals.. lol..

I think this last decline in interest has more to do with me getting my first motorcycle and spending so much time/energy on that.. which is where balancing out hobbies comes in..

is anyone else like this? just curious..

It's also that time of year when you want to do things outside! I find that rearranging rock, adding new sand, etc.. helps fire me back up!

It is sort of like a job. You just have to devote a space in your scedule each week to go reefin. I like to get on youtube and look at some of the awesome tanks that people have and then i look at my tank and why does mine not look like that. Then i am off to the lfs or shopping online.

Every month I have a day I wanna sell my tank.i think is to much work and money.but **** I love it a lot too

if i get too into video games my tanks decline. ive gone through 6 different planted freshwater setups since skyrim came out. after going reef though i got a handle on balancing my time. too much money involved to ignore. i find myself staring at the tank more than the tv now lol

Honestly I think it is good to step back from things that take up a lot of time and money and give it a vacation for a bit if possible, and then come back and you will hjave renewed interest (and if you don't, maybe try a longer vacation or maybe it isn't for you anymore). I do this with an online video game I have been play for 7 years now. I never "quit" but I go on hiatus.
