rookie all dosing question

Hi all
Hope eeveryoneis doing good ?

I have a 120 gallon tank 2 weeks ago incheck my alk was low ,

7.0 ish wanted to raise it to 8.5
I started dosing 8 ml alk for the 12 days ddint show much of a difference

What are you using to dose and how did you calculate 8ml? You can safely raise your alk from 7 to 8.5 in two or three days so try a couple of larger doses until you find a number you like!

Than started dosing again for another 5 days 8ml alk .I notice the alk has gone down .

Not sure if I'm doing it right .i added to my sump manually. Or my alk is decreasing in high pace. Mixed tank no sps .

Am using Red sea alk .

Please guide me to raise it safely. I used the red sea liquid and baught the 1 kg powder since almost running out .

Red sea alk the liquid baught the 1kg powder as well.i measured it using the red sea alk given cup

I think step 1 is to figure out what your tank is consuming per day. If your goal is to increase you will need to dose the amount consumed + additional to raise it up. If you are dosing and it is not changing from 7 that means you are only dosing what is consumed each day.

Forget all that expensive carp from branded companies.

Google randy's diy 2 part and just start using plain jane arm and hammer baking soda. Then use a reef calculator to determine how much to add to bring your ALK up to your desired level.

I would caution you not to raise your ALK by more then 1DKH per 24 hours.
