so picked up a rose nem today and i am under the impression they are a substrate nem will they attach to a rock dowm low or does he need to be in the substrate???

All of my bubble nems are in a crevice on the rock . You could try place it on the substrate but it will move to where it is happy .

They don't typically like crawling on sand/substrate. As mentioned, rocks and crevices. They will anchor deep down in between rocks and stretch out.

They will attach their foot within the cracks in the rock and will extend out. Haddoni and other carpets, as well as most condys are substrate nems

I've had them stay in the sand for months at a time and back glass. But most will attach to the rocks in a spot you don't want them.....
